Below are some links to more details, including photos and tips:

My Story

I was looking for a quick and easy recipe for shrimp and came across one that uses only shrimp, miso, and butter!

Inspiring Recipe

The simple recipe, MISO BUTTER SHRIMP, came from the Morsels of Life website.

First Try

Since this recipe required so few ingredients, I couldn’t wait to attempt it.

Ingredients to Use

To have enough food for the family, I doubled the shrimp, but halved the miso and butter since I was only going to use these two ingredients for this recipe. The adjusted amounts were as follows:

  1. 17.5 ounces of shrimp
  2. 2 ounces of butter
  3. 1/4 cup of white miso
Miso, shrimp, and butter
Miso, shrimp, and butter

Steps to Prepare

I followed the steps as noted in the recipe. As for whipping the butter and miso together, I chose to just mix them with a fork, so I could save some time on cleaning the whisk later. Also, instead of using a pan, I heated and cooked the ingredients in a wok.

Very soon after I started cooking the miso butter shrimp, it was ready to taste:

There was nothing fancy with this dish, but I would’ve preferred it a little warmer.

Second Try

I was looking forward to having some hot shrimp.

Ingredients to Use

The ingredients remained the same during this attempt.

Steps to Prepare

This time, I increased the heat to high after putting in the shrimp, instead of leaving it at medium high.

After making this dish another time, the results were as follows:

Though the recipe rating didn’t change, the shrimp was definitely softer, warmer, and more flavorful with a little bit of char.

Since this recipe requires little effort, I can spare some extra seconds to spice it up a bit with the following:

Continuous Improvement

  1. Add some cayenne or black ground pepper as suggested in the Miso Butter recipe by Ann Fulton on the Fountain Avenue Kitchen blog.

I’ve applied the following lesson when working with recipes, but I should also practice it in other areas of my life:

Lesson for Dumber Self

  1. Make a change if something isn’t quite right.
