Can Be Expensive but Bottom Line, They’re So Good!

Garlicky roasted shiitake mushrooms

In addition to the dishes listed here, I also love mushrooms, e.g., straw, wood ear, oyster, shiitake. Recently, I finally tried a recipe that uses only four ingredients to enhance the addicting flavor and texture of one of the costly ones.

Below are some links to more details, including photos:

My Story

A year ago, I heard about the benefits of shiitake mushrooms. At the time, I also found a very simple recipe for them, but didn’t try it since I was focused on making main dishes. Not long ago, I started to test side dish recipes as well.

Inspiring Recipe

What I located last year was the recipe, Garlicky Roasted Shiitake Mushrooms. It was from Worthy Pause, the same blog that I referenced when I made Dongbei-Style Braised Chicken Thighs.

First Try

All the ingredients listed in the recipe were either already stocked at home or regularly bought, so I didn’t have to make a special purchase for this dish.

Ingredients to Use

Because I started with 3/4 pound of fresh shiitake mushrooms, I had to increase the rest of the ingredients as follows:

  1. 2 tablespoons + 3/4 teaspoon of olive oil
  2. 3 garlic cloves

For the salt and pepper, I just sprinkled some across the pan a couple of times.

Steps to Prepare

For the five easy steps in the instructions, I just followed them as they were written.

Time to Eat

Once the mushrooms were in the bowl, I couldn’t wait to toss them in my mouth!

The flavors from the few ingredients all came through nicely. Not only was this pricey dish fast to make, it also disappeared very quickly!

Second Try

During my second attempt, my goal was to repeat the process for more of the same deliciousness.

Ingredients to Use

Since I bought a box of shiitake mushrooms with the same weight as before, I used the same amount for the other ingredients as well.

Steps to Prepare

After taking the same steps to make the dish, I turned off the oven and left it for a few minutes longer while I finished up another task.

Time to Eat

Here are the roasted shiitake mushrooms ready to go!

The mushrooms were just as mouth-watering as before, but with a chewier texture, which I loved!

With the roasted shiitake mushrooms so enjoyable already, could I boost them more? Perhaps I could try the following tip from the blog post author next time:

Continuous Improvement

  1.  Roast the mushrooms longer for a chip-like texture.

Reflecting on my experience with roasting the shiitake mushrooms, the following thought came to mind, which I’d like to share with my younger self:

Lesson for Dumber Self

  1. Appreciate quality over quantity!
